Zinsser Grade 1 is a high-performance, breathable interior paint designed for use in traditional and historic buildings, including churches, castles and period properties. It combines the benefits of a primer, stain blocker and finish in a single can, with no need for washing down or additional priming.
Its unique zero-tension formula forms a vapour-permeable, dead-flat matt finish that prevents cracking and flaking caused by trapped moisture. It adheres to difficult substrates such as limewash, distemper, plaster and whitewash, offering long-lasting protection and excellent stain blocking on ceilings, walls, trims and cabinetry.
Grade 1 is ideal for use in sensitive or occupied spaces, with low odour application and quick drying. It contains a surface biocide to protect against fungal degradation and is suitable for surfaces with up to 12.5pH.
Why Use Zinsser Grade 1?
✅ Primer, stain blocker & finish coat in one
✅ Zero-tension formula – Ideal for lime plaster and historic materials
✅ Breathable coating – Prevents peeling and cracking over time
✅ Blocks water, smoke, soot & tannin stains
✅ Virtually odourless – Suitable for sensitive environments
✅ Multi-surface application – Masonry, plaster, render, cement and more
Preserve the character of traditional buildings without compromising on performance. Zinsser Grade 1 provides a durable, breathable finish that respects the fabric of older properties while delivering modern protection and versatility.
