Thermoguard Steel Fire Paint Primer is a fast-drying, high-build solvent-based primer for structural steel, offering exceptional corrosion resistance and superior grip to steel, existing primers and gloss finishes. It forms the perfect base layer for Thermocoat WI, WO and S intumescent systems.
Formulated with Zinc Phosphate and Micaceous Iron Oxide, it delivers a tough, attractive metallic finish and is ideal for both internal and partially exposed external steel. Can also be used as a standalone primer finish in two coats under normal exposure or as part of a severe exposure system when overcoated with Thermoguard Flame Retardant Topcoat.
Surface Preparation

Apply promptly to blast cleaned steel or steel abraded to ST2

May also be applied to sound primers, gloss or eggshell finishes

Ensure all surfaces are clean, dry and sound

Avoid flash-rusting before application

Directions for Use

Minimum application temp: 5°C, steel must be 3°C above dew point, RH below 85%

Avoid exposure to moisture for at least 24 hours

Airless spray (21 thou tip): ready to use

Conventional spray: thin up to 10% with suitable thinners

Brush/roller: use as supplied for small areas or touch-ups

Overcoating times:

Touch dry: 1 hour @ 20°C

Recoat: 6 hours @ 20°C (longer at lower temps)
