AndPrime Impregnation Primer is a two-pack solvent-free epoxy primer designed to seal, strengthen and prepare porous or weak surfaces before applying high-performance coatings. It penetrates deeply to stabilise and consolidate concrete, steel and masonry, providing an ideal base for AndCoat HB Epoxy and other heavy-duty topcoats.
With excellent adhesion, low viscosity and chemical resistance, this epoxy primer ensures long-term performance in demanding environments such as warehouses, workshops, factories, chemical bunds and tank linings.
Surface Preparation
Correct preparation is essential for optimum results:
-
Concrete & Masonry: Ensure surfaces are fully cured (minimum 28 days), sound, clean and dry. Remove laitance, dust, oil, grease and other contaminants by vacuum blasting or grinding. Repair surface defects before application.
 -
Steel: Abrasive blast clean to SA 2½ (ISO 8501-1) or equivalent to remove rust and mill scale. If blasting is not possible, mechanically prepare to St3 standard. Coat immediately after preparation to avoid flash rusting.
 -
Previously Coated Surfaces: Remove unsound coatings and thoroughly abrade any remaining sound coating to provide a key.
 -
All surfaces must be free from moisture and contaminants before application.

Technical Data

 -
Mix Ratio: 4:1 by volume (Base : Hardener)
 -
Volume Solids: Approx. 100%
 -
Viscosity: Low – penetrates porous substrates
 -
Theoretical Coverage: 4–6m² per litre (depending on porosity of substrate)
 -
Film Thickness:
-
Wet: 150–200μm per coat
 -
Dry: 150–200μm per coat

 -
 -
Pot Life: Approx. 30–40 minutes at 20°C (shorter at higher temperatures)
 -
Overcoating Interval: Minimum 8 hours, maximum 48 hours at 20°C
 -
Full Cure: 5–7 days at 20°C
 -
Chemical Resistance: Good resistance to water, oils, fuels and a range of dilute acids and alkalis
 -
VOC: Solvent-free

Directions for use
-
Mixing: Combine the two components in the specified 4:1 ratio. Mix thoroughly with a slow-speed drill and paddle until uniform. Only mix what can be applied within the pot life.
 -
Application Methods: Apply by brush, roller or airless spray. Ensure an even coat and avoid puddling on the surface.
 -
Environmental Conditions:
-
Substrate and ambient temperature: 10–30°C
 -
Surface must be at least 3°C above dew point
 -
Maximum relative humidity: 85%

 -
 -
Overcoating: Apply subsequent coats between 8 and 48 hours at 20°C. If the maximum interval is exceeded, abrade the surface to provide a key.
 -
Curing: Allow 5–7 days at 20°C for full chemical cure before subjecting to chemical or heavy mechanical exposure.
 -
Cleaning: Clean tools and equipment immediately after use with AndCoat Thinner or suitable solvent.
 -
Storage: Store in a cool, dry and well-ventilated location between 5°C and 35°C. Keep away from direct sunlight.
