Zinsser SealCoat™ is a professional-grade, clear shellac-based sanding sealer for all interior wood surfaces. It penetrates deeply into the grain, enhances the natural tone of the timber, and dries lightning fast – ready to sand or recoat in just 20–30 minutes.
Compatible with all clear finishes, including solvent-based and water-based polyurethanes, lacquers and varnishes, SealCoat is perfect for floors, doors, furniture, cabinets and trim. It also works as a pre-stain conditioner, preventing blotchiness in softwoods like pine and fir, or as an odour-sealing barrier on wood and chipboard.
SealCoat won't yellow over time and gives a rich, warm basecoat that enhances the beauty and clarity of subsequent clear finishes.
Surface Preparation

Ensure wood is clean, dry, smooth and free from grease or wax

Sand bare wood thoroughly and remove all sanding dust

Remove wax with methylated spirits

Previously finished wood must be clean and well adhered

Let wood stains fully dry before applying

Directions for Use

Stir well before use. Do not over-thin unless pre-staining (see below)

Apply evenly with brush, cloth or spray – do not overwork the surface

Allow to dry 20–45 minutes before sanding with 120–220 grit

Apply 1–2 coats for best results – sand lightly between coats

When used as a pre-stain conditioner, thin 2:3 with methylated spirits

For floors, apply with a brush or applicator along the grain, keeping a wet edge

Clean tools with methylated spirits immediately after use
