Safewood Anti-Viral Satinwood is a decorative and protective topcoat designed for use over Thermoguard Fire Varnish Basecoat or the Safewood system. Once applied, it forms a durable barrier that kills 99% of bacteria in 4 hours and reduces Coronavirus by 93.4% in just 2 hours, making it ideal for high-contact areas like doors, sills, frames and handrails.

The satinwood varnish meets BS EN Class B s2 d0 fire rating when used as part of a complete system, helping to contain smoke, flames and flaming droplets. It also resists microbial growth, offering long-term hygiene benefits in healthcare, education, residential and commercial settings.

Available in clear and a range of 11 wood stain finishes, this solvent-based coating delivers a hard-wearing, easy-to-clean surface with a natural aesthetic. Suitable for use on new or previously varnished timber.

Surface Preparation

• Ensure all wood surfaces are clean, dry and sound

• Remove any loose, flaking or suspect coatings

• Abrade smooth or glossy surfaces with 120-grit abrasive to provide a mechanical key

• Degrease with a suitable cleaner and wipe clean

• Previously varnished surfaces must be well abraded and cleaned thoroughly

• For knotty woods or light shades, treat knots with shellac-free sealer if required

Note: Apply only over Safewood Basecoat or Thermoguard Fire Varnish Basecoat for fire-rated performance.

Directions for Use

1. Stir thoroughly before use — do not shake

2. Apply by synthetic brush or short-pile gloss roller

3. Maintain a wet edge to avoid lap marks

4. Apply 1–2 coats depending on required protection:

   • 1 coat over Fire Varnish Basecoat for fire protection only

   • 2 coats for full anti-viral and anti-bacterial performance

5. Do not apply if condensation is likely before full drying

6. Clean tools with white spirit immediately after use
