Rust-Oleum 9169/9180 Epoxy Rust Primer – Direct-to-Rust Corrosion Protection
Rust-Oleum 9169/9180 Epoxy Rust Primer is a low-viscosity, high-performance epoxy primer designed to be applied directly to sound, rusted metal surfaces, reducing surface preparation time and labour. It penetrates through rust to bond with the underlying metal, offering first-class adhesion and outstanding corrosion resistance. Formulated with a high concentration of rust inhibitors, this primer provides long-term protection and is easy to apply by brush, roller, or spray.
Key Features:
-
Apply Direct to Rusted Metal – Saves time and preparation effort
 -
Penetrates Rust – Bonds to sound metal beneath the corrosion
 -
Excellent Adhesion – First-class grip, even on second-class surfaces
 -
High Rust Inhibitor Content – Strong corrosion protection
 -
Touch Dry in 2 Hours – Fast-acting and efficient
 -
Application Methods: Brush, roller, or spray

Application Details:
-

Surface Preparation
Remove grease, oil and all other surface contaminations by alkaline or high pressure
(steam) cleaning in combination with appropriate detergents.
Remove loose rust, mill scale and deteriorated coatings by hand or power tool cleaning to
St 2/3 (ISO 8501-01 : 1988). Large areas may be brush-off blasted to Sa 2 (ISO 8501-01 :
1988), blast profile max. 50 µm. Sand previous coatings which are in good condition to
remove gloss and to roughen the surface slightly, check compatibility. The surface must be
clean and dry during application.
