Zinsser Gardz® is a unique water-based sealer designed to tackle problem interior surfaces. Formulated to penetrate deeply, it dries to a rock-hard, moisture-resistant film that seals, binds and stabilises porous or damaged substrates.
Unlike ordinary primers, Gardz® repairs and reinforces fragile surfaces such as torn drywall paper, joint compound, calcimine coatings and chalky finishes. It also seals in wallpaper adhesive residue, preventing future bubbling or lifting.
Fast-drying, low odour and water-based, Gardz® is the professional choice for preparing walls and ceilings before painting or papering, giving you a reliable base for a flawless finish.

Surface Preparation

Ensure surfaces are clean, dry, sound and free of dust, grease or contamination.

Remove loose or flaking material by scraping or sanding.

When sanding pre-1960s paint, take precautions against lead dust.

Fill cracks and defects with a suitable filler and sand flush before applying.

Do not apply over actively damp or wet surfaces.

Directions for Use

Stir well before use – do not thin.

Apply liberally using a brush, roller or sprayer, ensuring full penetration of porous areas.

Allow 30 minutes to dry before assessing whether a second coat is needed on highly porous substrates.

Recoat or apply wall coverings after 3 hours.
-
Wash tools immediately with warm soapy water.
-
Store between 5°C and 25°C, protected from frost.
