Surface Preparation
Ensure surface to be varnished is clean, dry, sound and free from wax, oil or any other contamination. If wax has been used clean the surface thoroughly with white spirit prior to sanding. Bare wood should be sanded to a smooth surface, always working with the grain. Sound, previously varnished surfaces should be lightly sanded to provide a key. Existing varnished surfaces which are unsound or in poor condition can be stripped back to bare
timber with Blackfriar Professional Paint and Varnish Remover.

Directions for Use
Stir thoroughly prior to use. The product may be applied by brush or roller. If applying by brush, apply evenly using light strokes following the grain of the wood. If rollering, use a short nap mohair roller. For best results 3 coats are recommended on new wood and 2 coats on previously varnished surfaces. Prior to application of the final coat or if the overcoating time is exceeded lightly abrade with fine glass paper working with the grain and remove dust. The varnish will appear cloudy when wet but will quickly dry to a clear finish. When applying to new or bare wood, thin the first coat with up to 10% water.
