AndCoat OT Primer – Oil-Tolerant Epoxy Resin Primer for Contaminated Concrete

AndCoat OT Primer is a two-component epoxy resin membrane formulated to improve adhesion on oil-contaminated concrete floors. Designed for use where residual oil remains after thorough cleaning, this primer enhances the bond strength of subsequent coatings and screed systems. While tolerant of residual contamination, it is essential that all surface oil and grease are removed using an industrial detergent before application.

Key Features:

  • Oil-tolerant epoxy primer for concrete substrates

  • Low odour and low viscosity for easy application

  • Excellent adhesion to cleaned, contaminated concrete

  • Enhances adhesion of coatings and screeds

  • Good chemical resistance

Surface Preparation

To be assured of maximum adhesion and best properties from AndCoat products the correct surface preparation is essential. The concrete substrate must be a minimum of 28 days old and the residual moisture content must be a maximum of 75% RH. The substrate should be sound with a minimum compressive strength of 25 N/mm2 and a minimum pull-off strength of 1.5 N/mm2. The surface must be clean, dry and free of contaminants such as dirt, oil, grease, coatings and surface treatments and contain a functioning damp proof membrane. If in doubt, apply a test area first. Concrete substrates should be mechanically prepared using vacuum enclosed abrasive blast cleaning or diamond grinding equipment to remove laitance and previous surface treatments followed by thorough vacuuming leaving an open textured surface. Weak concrete must be removed and repaired using recommended AndCoat products.

A proprietary de-greaser should be applied to the contamination as per manufacturers instructions, thoroughly worked into the surfaces and allowed to sit for at least 20 minutes. Agitate with a scrubber and rinse thoroughly as per manufacturers instructions. Several cleaning cycles may be required. Finally, rinse the surface thoroughly with clean water to remove and residues and allow to dry. Inspect the resultant surface and ensure that there is no free oil contamination on the surface and that no residual oil is rising from the screed. Surfaces must be free from liquid water and the atmosphere must be free from condensation.

Directions for Use

This product is supplied ready for use. No additions should be made. Pour all of the contents of the part B container into the part A container and thoroughly mix using a slow speed mixing drill and paddle, avoiding air entrainment. Mix for a minimum of 5 minutes
unless the material forms a uniform colour and consistency. Scrape down the sides after 2 minutes to ensure that all materials are fully incorporated.

Never mix by hand. Do not split packs.

Apply the mixed material with a short to medium pile lambs wool roller making sure that the surface is thoroughly wetted out, ensure that the applied material is uniform and pinhole free. If additional coats of primer are required, these should be applied 12 to 24
hours after the first coat was applied (see Curing Time) The first coat must not be contaminated prior to applying the second coat. The ambient temperature of the works area should be a minimum of 15°C during the application and curing period, if not adhered to this can affect the performance of the system. Materials and substrate temperature must remain above 10°C all TIMES.
