Watco Concrex Vertical Cold Cure is a lightweight epoxy repair mortar for damaged concrete and masonry faces in cool conditions. Its non-slump consistency helps the material stay in place on vertical surfaces, making it suitable for repairing pillars, sills, lintels, beams, render and stonework.

This cold-curing grade hardens at temperatures down to 0°C, allowing surface repairs in cold rooms and unheated areas. At around one third of the density of ordinary mortar, it is easier to work into vertical defects. Use it to restore frost-spalled concrete, fill damaged faces and rebuild surface profiles where a conventional floor repair mortar would be difficult to apply.

Surface Preparation

The substrate must be clean, dry and sound. Concrete and render should be at least four weeks old. Remove loose material, existing coatings, grease and contamination, and make sure stonework is clean and dry.

Where reinforcement is exposed, remove loose rust and treat with a suitable rust converter and primer, allowing the treatment to cure. Prime all vertical applications with Watco Tack Coat Sub Zero. Follow its preparation, application and overcoating instructions.

Technical Data

  • Pack size: 10kg; colour: grey.
  • Composition: two-component lightweight epoxy resin mortar.
  • Coverage: approximately 2.4m² per pack at 5mm thick.
  • Application depth: 5–50mm; build deeper repairs in layers.
  • Minimum application temperature: 0°C.
  • Typical curing time: 24 hours at 0°C.
  • Working life: up to 30 minutes.
  • Shelf life: 12 months in unopened containers.

Directions for Use

Condition the material at 15–25°C for at least eight hours before use. Mix the resin and aggregate with the curing agent on a mixing board rather than in the bucket. Work thoroughly until the colour is consistent throughout. Wear suitable protective gloves and follow the safety data sheets.

Press the mixed mortar firmly onto the tacky primer, compacting it into the defect. Shape and smooth with a steel float, wiping the blade with white spirit to reduce dragging. Work within the available pot life and allow the repair to cure before loading or further finishing.

Limitations

This is a surface facing and filling material, not a structural repair or bonding system. It is less impact-resistant than standard Concrex. Thin sections below 5mm may not be impervious; only feather edges where the bulk of the repair is at least 5mm thick. Do not steam clean or expose to temperatures above 60°C. Trial a small area if appearance is critical, and protect stored material from freezing.

Product FAQs

Can I use this mortar on a vertical wall?
Yes. Its lightweight, non-slump consistency is intended for vertical surface repairs, including concrete walls, pillars, sills, lintels and damaged render.

Is a primer required?
Yes. Watco specifies Tack Coat Sub Zero for all vertical applications. Apply the mortar to the tacky primer in accordance with the primer's instructions.

Will it cure in an unheated building?
It cures at temperatures down to 0°C. Typical curing time is 24 hours at 0°C; condition the material at 15–25°C for eight hours before application.

Is it suitable for structural concrete repairs?
No. It is intended for surface facing and filling, rather than structural repairs or bonding. Assess the condition of the substrate before starting work.
