Watco Tack Coat
- Lightwork of heavy-duty repairs
- Structural strength solutions
Watco Tack Coat is a two-part epoxy adhesive primer for use with the Watco Concrex concrete repair range. Its 100% solids epoxy formulation creates a bonding layer between the prepared substrate and repair mortar, helping achieve adhesion on shallow repairs, intricate edges and surfaces where additional bonding is needed.
Use this concrete repair primer before screeding with Concrex or applying Concrex Vertical. It is suitable for work on floors, steps, ramps and walls, with internal and external applications on concrete, metal and masonry. For repairs using Watco Concrex Deep Fill, Tack Coat is recommended on smooth or damp substrates where the mortar needs an adhesive bonding coat.
Tack Coat is applied sparingly with a brush or roller, making it straightforward to work into edges and smaller repair areas. The important step is to place the repair mortar while the primer is still tacky: allow it to develop its tack, then overlay before it sets to a hard film. This is a bonding primer for the repair system, rather than a finished floor coating.
- Epoxy bonding primer: supports adhesion for Concrex mortar and screeding work.
- Shallow and detailed repairs: useful around edges and intricate areas.
- Two coverage options: choose the pack for approximately 1m² or 6m² of prepared surface.
- Brush or roller application: apply one thin coat and overlay at the tacky stage.
Surface Preparation
Good surface preparation is essential for an effective bond between the substrate, primer and repair mortar. Remove dust, loose material and poorly bonded paint; roughen sound coatings to provide a key. Wire-brush or grind rust from metal, degrease and allow it to dry. Prime prepared metal promptly. Remove ice from the substrate.
Technical Data

|---|---|
| Pack coverage | 0.34L: approximately 1m²; 2L: approximately 6m² |
| Suitable surfaces | Concrete, metal and masonry |
| Coats / Tools | One thin coat / brush or roller |

Directions for Use
Empty the smaller tin into the larger and mix thoroughly with a wide blade. Decant the larger pack into a shallow tray and use immediately. Mixed material left in the tin can heat rapidly. Apply sparingly, then place Concrex mortar while the primer remains tacky.
Limitations
Do not allow the bonding coat to harden before overlaying. Protect stored packs from frost and condition at 15–20°C for eight hours before use. Read both safety sheets.
Product FAQs
Which pack should I choose?
The 0.34L pack treats approximately 1m²; the 2L pack treats approximately 6m². Coverage varies with the surface.
When should I apply the repair mortar?
Apply while Tack Coat is tacky, before it hardens: typically after about 60 minutes at 15–20°C, or three hours at 5°C.
Can it go over paint?
Yes, provided the paint is sound. Remove loose paint and roughen firmly bonded coatings first.
What if the primer has hardened?
Brush on a fresh coat, preferably within 24 hours, then apply the mortar while tacky. Follow the technical sheet.
