Watco Concrex Vertical
Litres required: 0.00L
Based on 0.24 m² per litre- Lightwork of heavy-duty repairs
- Structural strength solutions
Watco Concrex Vertical is a lightweight epoxy repair mortar for damaged concrete and masonry faces. Its non-slump consistency helps it stay in place while you rebuild worn or broken surface profiles on pillars, sills, lintels, beams, render and stonework.
At around one third of the density of ordinary mortar, it is easier to handle on vertical surfaces. Use it for frost-spalled concrete and surface damage around exposed reinforcement, after the steel and substrate have been prepared correctly. The grey finish can be smoothed with a steel float to blend the repair into the surrounding face.
Surface Preparation
Concrete and render must be dry, sound and at least four weeks old. Strip away previous coatings, contamination and loose material. Wire brush powdering concrete, and remove algae and contamination from stone.
Clean exposed rusty reinforcement, treat it with a suitable rust converter and primer, and allow that treatment to cure. Watco Tack Coat is required for all vertical applications. Follow the primer instructions and apply the mortar while the primer is tacky.
Technical Data
- Pack size: 10kg; colour: grey.
- Type: epoxy resin repair mortar with lightweight fillers.
- Coverage: approximately 2.4m² per pack at 5mm thick.
- Finish: smooth and impervious at suitable thickness.
- Typical cure: 3–6 hours at 15–30°C.
- Working life: 30–60 minutes at 15–30°C, shorter in warmer conditions.
- Tools: steel float or trowel.
- Shelf life: 12 months unopened; protect from freezing.
Directions for Use
Keep the material at 15–25°C for at least eight hours before use. Follow the pack's mixing sequence: tip the aggregate onto a mixing board, combine the liquid components thoroughly and work them into the aggregate. Mix until the colour is consistent, wearing suitable protective gloves.
Press firmly onto the tacky primer and shape the repair with a trowel. Smooth with a steel float, occasionally wiping the blade with a cloth lightly dampened with white spirit. Protect from rain during curing. Clean tools before the mortar hardens.
Limitations
Concrex Vertical is for surface facing and filling, not structural repair or bonding. It has less impact resistance than standard Concrex and may not be impervious below 5mm thick. Do not steam clean or expose to temperatures above 60°C.
At 10°C and below, curing slows and can stop; use Concrex Vertical Cold Cure for low-temperature work. Check the repair profile and depth against the technical sheet before application.
Product FAQs
Does Concrex Vertical need priming?
Yes. Use Watco Tack Coat for all vertical applications and apply the mortar while the primer is tacky, following the primer's instructions.
Can I repair a concrete pillar with it?
Yes, for surface facing and filling on a sound, correctly prepared pillar. It is not suitable for structural concrete repairs or bonding.
How much does one pack cover?
A 10kg pack covers approximately 2.4m² at 5mm thick. Deeper repairs use more material.
Can I use the original grade in cold weather?
Curing slows and can halt at 10°C and below. Choose Concrex Vertical Cold Cure for low-temperature applications.
